That outrageous, incredible thing
Anton Webern to Arnold Schönberg

“My dearest friend,
How glad I am that that outrageous[,] incredible thing in Mattsee ended up that way. If you had really had to give up everything you’d finally achieved again after years because of that: working in peace, such an idea, to drive you mad! Polnauer has told us much. I am so glad that you have it so well there and I pray that now nothing, nothing will bother you now. The Harmonielehre is already completely finished. And now you are composing ‘Jakobsleiter!’”
