››› Discography

Schönberg’s work has been abundantly documented in sound-carrying media, starting in 1922, when his Three Piano Pieces Op. 11 were preserved on piano roll; the first recording of Verklärte Nacht Op. 4 followed in 1924, the earliest phonograph documentation of his works. Most of the recordings of Schönberg’s music are available at the Center, and new ones are constantly being added to the collection.
R. Wayne Shoaf performed the initial comprehensive stocktaking in 1994, published as a discography in book form; a few years later, it was made accessible to the broad public as a constantly extendable online reference. The current catalog is based on that endeavor.
