International Schönberg-Symposium at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna
October 11 to October 13, 2018

Call for Papers

The Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna in cooperation with the Center for Research on Arnold Schönberg and the Viennese School at the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies of the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Vienna is hosting an international symposium from October 11 to October 13, 2018.

Lectures are welcomed on all issues relating to current research on Schönberg.

Part of the symposium will be devoted to the theory of musical performance in the Viennese School. Discussions will be held on fundamental issues and research desiderata which will be a focus of activity and research at the Center for Research on Arnold Schönberg and the Viennese School for many years:
–    aspects of theory formation
–    the Society for Private Musical Performances
–    historical sound documents
Lecture applications may be submitted on these topic areas as well.

The symposium provides scholars with the opportunity to present papers of 20 minutes duration on the status and results of their research projects and lay them open to discussion. A publication of selected contributions and articles from independent authors is planned for the Journal of the Arnold Schönberg Center 16/2019. The languages used in the symposium are German and English.
