Edward Steuermann--piano student of Ferruccio Busoni, and a composition student of Schoenberg. From 1912 onward, with the exception of Schoenberg's Op. 48, he participated in the world premieres of every Schoenberg work which utilizes a piano. He was the pianist for the Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen. The International Society for Contemporary Music awarded him the Schönberg medal (1952). In 1949 he married Clara Silvers, who became the first archivist of the Arnold Schoenberg Institute.
