The volume “Lulu” of the Alban Berg Complete Edition presents the first historical and critical edition of one of the most well-known fragments in music history. While earlier editions focused primarily on facilitating a performance of the unfinished opera, the new edition exclusively represents the musical text left behind by the composer. In addition to the autograph score, the short score, and the sketches, all later sources authorized by Berg were consulted. Editor Jonas Pfohl provides insights into the heterogeneous sources and the corresponding editorial methodology of the new edition of the fragment.
