The Webern Winds, the newly founded wind orchestra of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna – will open their program with a fanfare by Arnold Schönberg. Schönberg based the Fanfare for a Bowl Concert on motifs from the “Gurre-Lieder.” A few years earlier, Aaron Copland had tremendous success with his “Fanfare for the Common Man.” The Webern Winds’ first public performance will also feature exciting works by Percy Grainger and Ida Gotkovsky.
