With the Piano Pieces, op. 11 from 1909, music became for Arnold Schönberg an “expression of feeling [...], as our feelings, which bring us in contact with our unconscious, really are.” In the same year, Egon Wellesz, who would later write a biography of Schönberg, began his piano cycle “Der Abend” – a set of lyrical pieces that establish a distinctive atmosphere. Wilhelm Grosz was a student of Schönberg’s friend Franz Schreker: the Symphonic Variations attest to the composer’s creative musical powers while still in his mid-twenties.
The concert will be streamed live on facebook and YouTube and will be available for seven days afterwards.
