The title of the chamber opera “Schoenberg in Hollywood” by US composer Tod Machover (*1953) says it all. Nevertheless, this work also shows cinematic flashbacks that recount episodes from the life of Arnold Schönberg in Vienna at the turn of the century, including his companions Mathilde Zemlinsky and Gertrud Kolisch, and also fellow composers such as Alban Berg and Gustav Mahler. The work is given its European premiere as the fifth production in the series “Volksoper in the Kasino am Schwarzenbergplatz”.
