Mark Andre is one of the most important representatives of contemporary French music. His studies with Helmut Lachenmann, who was the focus of a composer portrait by the Webern Ensemble Wien in 2012, played a crucial role in his artistic development. Andre’s works, which are featured in this year’s composer portrait at the mdw, present existential and metaphysical questions in a musical language that combines advanced compositional technique with expressive gestures.
