The Stadtarchiv Mannheim was founded in 1907. The Schoenberg correspondence is kept among the legacy of Wilhelm Bopp (NL Bopp 119). From 1907 Wilhelm Bopp had been the director of the Vienna Music Conservatory. In 1910 and 1912, Bopp helped Schoenberg in gaining a teaching position at the Conservatory. Schoenberg had to decline the offer.
