Henry Clay Shriver--commissioned Schoenberg's Piano concerto, op. 42. Schoenberg gave a copy of the manuscript to him. Shriver studied counterpoint with Schoenberg's at UCLA in the late 1930s. Shriver did not pursue a career in music, instead he became a lawyer eventually rising to the rank of Assistant District Attorney of Long Beach (California). Born in 1917 (2 Oct.), he died of cancer shortly after moving to Chapel Hill (North Carolina) in 1994 (6 Jan.).
