Hans Moldenhauer--American pianist and musicologist of German birth, who for many years avidly collected manuscripts, letters and other materials relating to music. He founded the Spokane Conservatory in 1942, and was president of that institution from 1946. He established the Moldenhauer Archive at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he taught from 1961 to 1964. His collection of material relating to the Second Viennese School, and Anton Webern in particular, is unparalleled. He has written books on the subject of Webern. Prior to his death, Moldenhauer also established "Moldenhauer Archives" in other places as well, including Harvard University, the Library of Congress, Northwestern University, and the Paul Sacher Stiftung in Basel.
