Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt

Collection, 1948-2002: 1 folder (36 leaves, 1 program)

Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt--founded in 1947 by Wolfgang Steinecke as the site for the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik. It was also known as the Kranichsteiner Musikinstitut (1949-1962) and the Informationszentrum für zeitgenössische Musik (from 1963). It houses a library containing music, books, periodicals, a press archive, and recordings. Its principle objectives are to encourage the creation, performance, and study of new music. Since the Internationale Ferienkurse began in 1946, virtually all of Schoenberg's music has been performed in Darmstadt.
