Akademie der Künste der DDR – established in 1954 from the Preussische Akademie der Künste. Before World War I, the Preussischer Akademie der Künste (founded 1696) had one of the most distinguished music composition faculties in Germany. Schoenberg held master classes in composition there (1925-1933) until he emigrated to the United States.
