International Schönberg-Symposium at the Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna
October 12 to October 14, 2017

The Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna in cooperation with the Center for Research on Arnold Schönberg and the Viennese School at the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies of the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Vienna is hosting an international symposium from October 12 to October 14, 2017.

Lectures are welcomed on all issues relating to current research on Schönberg.

Part of the symposium will be dedicated to the theory of performance in the Viennese School.
In three moderated panels focusing on
– aspects of theory formation
– the situation in (instrumental) teaching and
– the surviving sound recordings
fundamental questions and research desiderata will be discussed that form the starting point for a central area of work and research at the Center for Research on Arnold Schönberg and the Viennese School that will span several years. Lecture applications can also be submitted on these topics.

The symposium provides scholars with the opportunity to present papers of 20 minutes’ duration on the status and results of their research projects and lay them open to discussion. A publication of selected contributions and articles from independent authors is planned for the Journal of the Arnold Schönberg Center 15/2018. The languages used in the symposium are German and English.
